Architectural firm Drewett Works once again received top honors at the 2022 Gold Nugget Awards held June 22 in San Francisco.
The Scottsdale-based company was recognized with a Grand Award for Best One-of-a-Kind Home, a Merit Award for Best Indoor/Outdoor Lifestyle for a Home, and a Merit Award for Best Interior Design of a Custom or One-of-a-Kind Home. All three honors were for “Stone Radius,” a contemporary estate in Paradise Valley, Ariz.
The competition lauds architectural design and planning excellence and draws entries from the U.S. and internationally. “Gold Nugget Award winners reflect our industry’s best, brightest, and most innovative architects, planners, and builder/developers,” said Judging Chairman and Gold Nugget ceremonies administrator Lisa Parrish. “We applaud them all.”
Now in its 59th year, GNA is the largest and most prestigious competition of its kind in the nation. It honors design and planning achievements in community and home design, green-built housing, site planning, commercial, retail, mixed-use development, and specialty housing categories. Winners this year were chosen from more than 600 entries from around the world.
The project team for the winning entry includes Bedbrock Developers (builder), Drewett Works (architect), Ownby Design (interior design), and Greey|Pickett (landscape architect). Photography by Werner Segarra.
More about Stone Radius:
With its modern vibe harkening back to Palm Springs style, this C.P. Drewett-designed house is recognizable by its low, linear architecture; distinctive white limestone cladding; and soft-arching curvature.
Located in Paradise Valley, Ariz., in the Cameldale Estates development, the 6,200-square-foot home is sited so almost every room has a view of Camelback Mountain. Graceful in form, the residence is designed to mimic the radius of the circular cul-de-sac on which it lives. Few walls in the three-bedroom residence are straight. Instead, an almost imperceptible curve defines the home.
Gorgeous white Freska limestone imported from Turkey transforms indoor/outdoor walls into massive works of textural art made of beautiful brick-like forms in various sizes and patterns. Wide expanses of glass, clerestory windows, and high alder ceilings keep the open-concept public spaces light and bright, while black metal detailing and an enormous fireplace wall serve as dynamic counterpoints.
This luxurious home exudes a calming ambiance with its warm neutral color palette inspired by the landscape surrounding it. Designed to create a beautiful backdrop to highlight the homeowners’ exquisite art collection, the interiors are elegantly furnished. They feature seamless transitions between the indoors and out, making them the ideal setting for living the good life in the desert Southwest.
